“Redrawn Change”- Nathan Sokolovsky

These pieces came about through my experimentation with Photoshop. I had recently logged in to my family’s subscription and began playing around with a few of the features, eventually stumbling upon the knowledge of how to overlay images. Knowing this months theme, I looked to what I can intermingle.
I had also become fascinated with the history of Los Angeles, a complex, rather short one, that has culminated in one of the greatest city’s in the world. I brought together two of my favorite images coming from an archive of old Hollywood phtos and worked from there.
The ‘Hollywoodland’ sign gave me direct inspiration to input hikers, an apparent site of what can be seen there today. For the other image, I used a photo coming from one of Bruce Gilden’s infamous street phtography series. His series attempts to point out the grotesque reality fo today. A brief look at his work will have a viewer both in mild disgust and bewilderment. A deep analysis into the photoshopped image might point towards the bleek reality in Los Angeles with the rising drug epidemic or homelessness issue, however I simply thought the photos looked cool.
